The two rooms in this situation are in a 'converted for business' house, at the back with no frontage window. The member was intending to work in one and have a little showroom in the other - the setup isn't visible to passing footfall."
Answer from the Underwriters:
“I would agree that this falls within the parameters of the policy, as it is not what we would describe as a full retail unit and is purely a studio with a little bit extra going on.”
On that basis we could confirm cover in this instance.
**Recent policy wording amendment regarding eligibility and the criteria concerning a retail shop outlet**
Eligibility Criteria
It is hereby noted and agreed that only members that comply with the following criteria are eligible for cover under this policy:
1. The member is a fully paid up Eligible Member of the Guild of Jewellery Designers and/or the British Pearl Association and/or the 'Odissa Handmade' marketplace
2. The member does not trade as a Limited Company, Limited Liability Partnership, Community Interest Company or any similar incorporated entity
3. The member does not have any employees on a full-time or part-time basis or engages any freelance workers on a labour only basis
4. The member is domiciled in the United Kingdom
5. The member does NOT trade out of a permanent retail premises other than:
a. retail premises attached to Your workshop where the design and manufacture of jewellery is Your main activity
b. a market stall or similar type arrangement
